From Gallura, the best terroir for Vermentino
The Cantina Sociale del Vermentino di Monti is one of the most important factories in Gallura and one of the most consolidated Sardinian wineries, founded in 1956 by a group of passionate viticulturists from Monti. The territory on which the winery stands is that of the Gallura hinterland, a few kilometers from Costa Smeralda, with about five hundred hectares of vineyards distributed among the municipalities of Monti, Telti, Olbia and Loiri Porto San Paolo.
A territory that in a short space from the coast becomes hilly, with soils formed by granite sandbanks, shallow and rich in potassium, characterized by good temperature ranges and the optimal influx of sea breezes which, during the night, refresh the sunny lands and deposits precious saltiness on the surface of the grapes, fundamental for wines flavor and for their complexity and aromatic persistence.
Here Vermentino finds its favorite habitat of which La Cantina Sociale has made its own flag, obtaining a vast range of products, from dry sparkling to ready-to-drink white, the most structured, to the high one in cask and the passito, obtaining wines that have been awarded many times at national and international level.
A mix of bubbles and minerals inside the glass
The Balari is a naturally fermented Vermentino DOCG that thanks to its organoleptic qualities has been awarded at the First International Wine Competition 2015 of the Vinitaly of Verona, with the “Grand Gold Medal”.
It’s a very simple but extremely fine white wine, obtained from Vermentino grapes in compliance with the DOCG specification, from espalier vineyards reared in the hills around Monti, at an altitude between 300-500 m above sea level, on land deriving from the granite disintegration. The early harvest, carried out around the first ten days of September, allows the obtainment of a fruit with high acidity and low sugars, more delicate, fresher and with lower alcohol concentration.
It has a pale straw yellow color, characterized by greenish reflections and pleasant little fine sparkling chains that enliven the glass. The nose reveals delicate aromas of white flowers, far hints of broom flowers with green apple and pear notes and soft hints of almond. In the mouth it’s a very pleasant and delicate wine, lively, with a not very pronounced body, fresh and savory of the minerality of the granitic land of Sardinia, a character very much sought after by wine lovers.
In addition to being a perfect white aperitif, it can be combined with fried vegetables and seafood, delicate and fresh main courses, vegetable tempura and not too complex fish dishes, pizza and calzone. He’s a great companion during festive occasion!
